CHKA Championships 2018

Yesterday saw Kaizen Central Karate Federation take a small squad to the CHKA Championships. Josh was first up in his kata category. Josh breezed through the first round 2-1 into the semi finals. He come up against a tough competitor in the next round and unfortunately missed out on a place in the final but took home a respectable 3rd place in a tough group. Sadly Josh picked up an injury during his first kata and decided to not compete in kumite with further competitions coming up. Sean again didn’t have the luck of the draw and met a very tough competitor in the first round who performed a much higher kata therefore losing out but it was more experience gained. Following their uncles success in the 10K it was the turn of future champions Taesha and Chantai to take to the mat. Taesha blew away the first two competitors 5-0 and 9-0, in true Thomas fashion. Taesha fought a hard battle in the quarter finals just missing out on a place in the podium after losing 2-1. Next up was Chantai. After a scoreless minute the referees and judges awarded Chantai the fight after great intensity and work rate throughout. Chantai won her quarter final fight vs a tough opponent 3-2 to go on and narrowly miss out on reaching the final but bringing home a well deserved bronze medal. Finally Sean was up again. After putting in a great effort and using a variety of techniques Sean lost out to a good opponent. A good result for a small squad and plenty to build on. 🥉 🥉
