Karate-do Federation Open Championship

Today Kaizen Gunns took 4 students to our first competition as a club. First up was Sean. Performing a very good Heian Sandan he was unlucky to come up against one of the finalists in his group. Second we had Katy who performed a great Kihon and comfortably got through to the second round. Narrowly missing out on a place in the final by one flag Katy's Kihon had improved from the first round. Her final kata in the bout for 3rd place was easily her best and... helped her secure her first medal on her first ever competition. Well done Katy 💪. On to Kumite. Sean was up first and was very unlucky again against another finalist in his group. He showed courage to shake off a few heavy punches to the face and continue you the fight and even walk away scoring a point at competition level. Next up was Victor who also was u lucky to come up against the winner of the group. Victor scored some very good points and showed great promise for the future. Plenty to build on. Finally we had Hannah. Continuing the trend she was very unlucky to come up a far more experienced opposition who also went on to win. Hannah did very well and made her opponent work had for her victory. A big well done to John on his refereeing. He was thrown in at the deep end running an area today. He has not officiated for a while but did not put a foot wrong. Very composed and in control.

It was a pleasure to coach you all today and clearly the hard work you all put in showed. Remember you need to lose to learn. We hope today has encouraged not only those who competed but those spectating. You all are capable of achieving great things. 👍👊
